Just everyday activities can put stress and strain on our backs.  Improper lifting techniques or even posture can set you up for an injury.  Low back pain is a symptom of either a condition, disease or injury.  Rehabilitation of the spine may include a chiropractor, massage chair therapy and even physical therapy.</p>
<p>What do you think is the leading cause of missed work or job related disability?  If you answered, low back pain, then you are correct.  The second most common neurological condition in the US is back pain.  Back pain is a general category, which can be either acute or chronic.  It may last a few days or weeks.  Or in chronic conditions, is persists and can also be progressive lasting months.</p>
<p>The treatment for low back pain usually incorporates the use of non-invasive recommendations and usually doesnt involve surgery.  Rehabilitation with a physical therapy will involve the use of analgesics or pain medications, protocols to help reduce inflammation, restore proper function and strength.  Most patients will recover without any residual functional loss.</p>
<p>One avenue of recovery involves chiropractic treatments.  Chiropractors are trained to restore the health of the spine with natural methods.  Some treatments involve spinal adjustments, electrical stimulation and massage treatments.  The key is to rebalance the spine allowing the muscles and soft tissues the properly heal and pull their weight again.</p>
<p>There are several things that a patient can do at home to start caring for their back.  Using ice or heat, although never scientifically proven to quickly resolve low back injury, may help to reduce inflammation or swelling.  If you undertake strenuous activity or have slight pain, then use an ice pack over the area.  Use a bag of ice wrapped in a towel.  Use the ice for 20 minutes several times a day for 2 to 3 days.  The ice will help to reduce the inflammation.</p>
<p>Try this preventative action to help you relax.  Use warm baths and let the warmth penetrate through the muscles.  Or apply directly to sore muscles with hot packs or with a heating pad.  You can target the heat to penetrate its warmth through the muscle to help with blood circulation.  Never apply heat if you are going to sleep as this could burn or damage soft tissues.  Only use the heat until it warms up the muscle tissue and provides relief.</p>
<p>With almost any part of the body, exercise is pivotal.  Muscles need to be used.  Use it or lose it is very true.  Your body needs continuous exercise to maintain its vitality.  Many injuries occur because of a non-routine movement or from lack of use.  Start by going for walks or swims.  Include stretching in the beginning and also at the end.  </p>
<p>One popular method for rehabilitation is the incorporation of Yoga.  Many of the stretches and exercises can be targeted to the lower back.  Stretching helps with flexibility while exercises helps to maintain and strengthen the muscles and soft tissue areas.  Daily exercises for 15 minutes can make an enormous difference.  Just do not over due it.</p>

<p>Many people confuse the difference between stress and anxiety. Stress comes from our interpretation of our environment which we call the pressures of life. Anxiety on the other hand is caused by high levels of uncertainty in life. Anxiety is more feelings of unease and apprehension. Stress tends release adrenaline into our bodies. Both of these situations cause muscles to become stiff and tense. Your body needs to unwind this tension for better balance. <p>Stress seems to be building in modern times. Most people are feeling stress from the changes in the economy and pressures from work. The causes of stress are known as a stressor. When you get angry, anxious or nervous this may be due to a stressor. Stress is interesting because interpretation of the environment is the main stressor.</p>
<p>Anxiety is different from stress in that it can linger after the stressor is gone. Anxiety is associated with feelings of unease and fear. <p>Some of the more common symptoms of stress are constant aches and pains, palpitations, anxiety, and chronic fatigue. The primary response of stress is immediate protection of the body. However, in todays highly changing world, the stress we feel often lingers and with it the common symptoms.</p>
<p>When we face high levels of uncertainty then we generally start to feel anxiety. The feeling of uncertainty and unease become primary. Anxiety causes us to second-guess and in many cases fall into analysis paralysis. You may have felt anxiety when doing things for the first time. Take for instance, your drivers test or your first date. Excitement and uncertainty occur at the same time.</p>
<p>Anxiety can interfere with normal life. If we have prolonged anxiety, then this can become destructive to the body. This can start a series of thoughts of helplessness and excessive worry. We begin to focus and overanalyze our situations. We can ruminate about a situation without end which causes the stress to become sustained.</p>
