The Clubs You’ve Got To Have In Your Beginner Golf Club Set
If you’ve been learning how to play golf with rental clubs then it’s probably time to start thinking about buying your own beginner golf club set. You don’t need to get anything as fancy as what the PGA golfers use. Anything on that level will probably be too difficult for you to play. All you need is an inexpensive but quality made set to help you continue practicing.
Just because you’ll be looking for an inexpensive beginner golf club set doesn’t mean that you’ll be sacrificing on quality clubs. You’ll be able to find great clubs at this level that will help improve your game. By saving money on new clubs, that will leave you more money to spend on lessons. Lessons are more beneficial at this stage. There are a few things that you should keep in mind when shopping.
For long shots you’ll want to be sure to have lofted fairway woods like a 3-wood and 5-wood. Woods are easier to hit so don’t complicate things at this point. Instead of long irons, the hybrid 4 and 5 will be more beneficial. You should experiment with all 4 of these clubs. You’ll probably find that you hit them all about the same distance. What you’ll want to do is see which one feels most comfortable and use that one to begin.
You’ll want a larger headed driver because they’re much easier to hit. This means that a driver with a 440-460 cc forged titanium head will work best. Most beginner golfers have natural slices so a driver with a draw-biased weight screw will help you counteract the slice. An extra loft of 10 to 12 degrees is better for distance and accuracy.
Many beginners use their putter more than any other club in the bag. Good putting takes practice so its good to start with a putter with a large head so it’s easier to hit and will give you more accuracy. Putters with stabilization designs and a high MOI (moment-of-inertia) will help you have a more consistent stroke.
Your new beginner golf club set should also have a pitching wedge and a sand wedge. Not all beginner sets have these two clubs but trust me, you’ll be glad you have them. These club should have balanced weight screws and be perimeter weighted. This will give you a deeper center of gravity so you have more control.
One of the best beginner golf club sets available is the Top Flite XL 5000 Full Box Set. This set comes with a total of 18 pieces and includes the most important clubs listed above. You may not use all of the clubs when you’re just beginning but as you improve you’ll be glad that you have them all.
